Authorities have identified 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez of Chicago as the suspect in a deadly shooting near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. Law enforcement officials confirmed that Rodriguez had no prior contact with police before the incident.
The shooting, which occurred in the area of 3rd and F Streets NW — a location close to the museum, an FBI field office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office — resulted in the deaths of two individuals, both reportedly staff members of the Israeli embassy. The victims, a man and a woman believed to be a couple, were attending an event in the area at the time of the attack.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged the victims’ diplomatic status, and the incident is being investigated as a potential targeted attack.
Emergency personnel and federal investigators responded swiftly to the scene, which was cordoned off as part of an ongoing investigation. The FBI and local police are working in coordination to determine the motive and whether there are any broader security concerns.
This is a developing story, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
