The Greenville, South Carolina, educational community is mourning the sudden passing of Yanilka “Nicky” Andrews, a beloved former principal and lifelong advocate for public education. Mrs. Andrews died unexpectedly on May 23, 2025, at the age of 50, leaving behind a profound legacy of leadership, mentorship, and compassion that touched thousands of lives across the Upstate region.
Mrs. Andrews dedicated more than two decades to shaping the educational landscape of South Carolina. She began her career after graduating from Furman University and earning advanced degrees from the University of South Carolina. From 2008 to 2016, she served as Principal of Greenbrier Elementary School, where she was known for fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. She later became Principal of Greenville Middle Academy, a role she held until 2024. Her leadership at both schools was marked by a commitment to academic excellence and a deep care for students and staff alike.
In 2024, Mrs. Andrews took on the role of Coordinator of Training and Teacher Quality for Spartanburg County School District Five. In this position, she focused on elevating teaching standards and empowering educators throughout the region. Her colleagues remember her as a tireless advocate for education, someone who saw the potential in every student and worked diligently to ensure that every child felt seen, heard, and valued.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mrs. Andrews was deeply rooted in her faith and community. She was a devoted member of North Hills Church in Taylors, SC, where her spiritual commitment provided strength and inspiration to those around her. Her personal life was filled with love and dedication to her family; she is survived by her husband, Mark Andrews, and their son, Jack Andrews. She also leaves behind her mother, Maria Delgado, and her sister, Isabel Delgado-Moore.

A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Andrews will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2025, at 1:30 PM at North Hills Church, located at 4952 Edwards Road, Taylors, SC 29687. In lieu of flowers, the Andrews family requests that donations be made in her honor to North Hills Church or to organizations that promote educational equity and teacher development, continuing her mission of empowering future generations.
